Prepare early by checking weather alerts and forecasts, charging phones and other devices, and making sure you have enough food, water, medications and other essential supplies. Avoid unnecessary travel, bring pets indoors, and make sure you have warm clothing, blankets and flashlights ready in case the power goes out. During the storm, stay indoors whenever possible, dress warmly if you must go outside, and continue monitoring local emergency updates until conditions improve.

If a tornado warning is issued, act immediately and move to the safest place available. Go to a basement or a small interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows and exterior walls. Protect your head and neck with your arms, a blanket, mattress or sturdy object, and bring pets with you if it is safe to do so. Keep your phone or weather radio nearby and continue monitoring emergency alerts until the warning has ended.

If a flash flood warning is issued, move to higher ground immediately and stay away from rivers, streams, drainage areas and low-lying roads. Never walk, swim or drive through floodwater because it may be deeper or moving faster than it appears. Avoid bridges over fast-moving water and follow any evacuation instructions from local officials. Continue monitoring weather and emergency alerts until the danger has passed.

If an earthquake happens, Drop, Cover and Hold On. Get under a sturdy table or desk if possible, stay away from windows, shelves and objects that could fall, and protect your head and neck. If you are outside, move away from buildings, trees and power lines. Once the shaking stops, check for hazards, be prepared for aftershocks, and follow emergency instructions from local authorities.
